Elissa Lane, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

As CEO of Global Food Partners, Elissa is responsible for running all facets of the organization. Elissa brings over a decade of experience in leading highly-effective teams, developing and executing strategic programs, and advising food and hospitality industry leaders worldwide on the adoption and implementation of animal welfare sourcing policies, with a focus on cage-free egg production. Prior to co-founding Global Food Partners, Elissa was Director of Humane Society International Farm Animals, where she drove the department’s program execution and strategy, and led its global corporate policy team, partnering with the largest food companies in the world, from Latin America to Asia.

Elissa has spoken at food industry events worldwide and quoted in more than two hundred media articles and interviews.

A United States native, Elissa holds a BA in Spanish and Biology from Northern Arizona University and a Masters in Latin American Studies from American University in Washington, DC, where she focused her research on industrial animal agriculture. Elissa is currently based in Washington, DC and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Jayasimha Nuggehalli, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer

As the COO of Global Food Partners, Jayasimha oversees the day to day operations of the organization and leads the company’s development of innovative traceability and supply chain solutions for animal-sourced protein.

Jayasimha, a research fellow at the Animal Law Policy Program at Harvard Law School,  previously served as Managing Director of Humane Society International / India where he was involved in the expansion of the organization in Asia, and the country’s transition to higher welfare cage-free egg production systems, including helping launch India's first commercial free-range egg farm. 

Jayasimha has worked closely with various Ministries of the Government of India, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Nepal where his roles have entailed drafting new codes and reviewing the existing codes to incorporate animal welfare measures for food and agricultural standards. 

Jayasimha received a law degree from Bangalore University and is enrolled as an advocate at the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, and is a member of Supreme Court Bar Association (India) and the American Bar Association. He was the Founding Director of the Animal Law Centre at NALSAR School University of Law, Hyderabad, and a former member of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI). Jayasimha is fluent in English, Hindi, Kannada & Tamil.


Sabina Garcia, Co-Founder and Chief Program Officer

As Chief Program Officer for Global Food Partners, Sabina leads the organization’s programmatic strategy and efforts, partnering with the food sector and other key stakeholders to implement meaningful animal welfare policies and best practices in Asia.

Prior to co-founding Global Food Partners, Sabina led Humane Society International’s food policy programs in Mexico, where she worked with the country and region’s leading food and hospitality companies, driving the shift to alternative cage-free housing systems in Latin America.

For over ten years, Sabina has served in various environmental and international cooperation projects on building analysis, reporting solutions and holding international events. Sabina Garcia holds a BS in International Relations from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and postgraduate degrees focused on issues related to environmental sciences, sustainability, climate change, animal welfare, and international negotiations.

Sabina is an international speaker, has been featured in hundreds of media stories in Latin America, and is a regular contributor to the region’s leading industry publications. Sabina is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.
